They knew the stakes. They sensed the opportunity. They seized the moment. "Mission accomplished," Bishop Eustace senior Kelly Quinn said after scoring two goals to spark the Crusaders to a 5-2 victory over West Essex on Sunday in the Group 2 state field hockey championship game. Montana Fleming, Katie Feeney, and Eileen Dzwill added goals, and Alex Pecora made a couple of acrobatic saves as Bishop Eustace won its third state title and second in three seasons with a dominating performance at the College of New Jersey.

Eastern. The Vikings are loaded as they pursue their 14th consecutive state Group 4 title. Sophomore Austyn Cuneo, The Inquirer Player of the Year who scored 69 goals in leading Eastern to a 27-0 record as a freshman, is back along with Carly Celkos (27 goals), Emma Johansson, Karlee Spirit (27 assists), and top defender Erin Hoag, among others. Camden Catholic. The Irish return eight starters from a team that went 17-5, won the Central Jersey Group 2 title, and lost a 4-3 decision to West Essex in the state final.

A quirky, 2-1 loss to West Essex in the Group 2 state championship game in 2010 is all that separated this group of Audubon seniors from completing a "three-peat" to match their friendly rivals from Gloucester Catholic as well as the program's legendary class of 1996. Still, Audubon coach Rich Horan and his seniors were in no mood to complain after the Green Wave won their second consecutive state title with a 6-1 victory over Pompton Lakes in the Group 1 state championship game Saturday at Toms River South.

TOMS RIVER, N.J. - The Camden Catholic field hockey team's remarkable run through the state tournament ended Sunday with a 4-3 loss to West Essex in the Group 2 state final. The upstart Irish pushed the perennial state power to the brink in an entertaining game at Toms River East. "Hopefully, we earned some respect in the state," Camden Catholic coach Maureen Nelson said. "I was so proud of these girls. " Camden Catholic (17-5) got a typically strong game from sophomore Tara Vittese, who scored one goal and assisted on another.
