Emily Sands watched Tuesday as a teammate tied one of her Westtown scoring records. She probably wasn't too mad about it. Freshman Sarah Oswald finished a cross from Relly Ladner with six minutes remaining as fourth-seeded Westtown rallied for a 3-2 win over visiting No. 5 Agnes Irwin in the PAISAA soccer quarterfinals. It was Oswald's second goal of the game and her 16th of the year, which tied Sands atop Westtown's freshman scoring list. Sands, a senior bound for Penn, scored her 25th goal of the season.

Penn recruit Emily Sands scored her 49th, 50th and 51st career goals Wednesday as host Westtown won, 9-1, over Bonner-Prendergast in nonleague soccer. Sands, a senior midfielder, scored all three of her goals before halftime. Freshman Sara Oswald also had a hat trick for the Moose. In other nonleague action, Madison Dutton (15 saves) delivered her third straight shutout as Christian Academy cut down Philadelphia Academy Charter, 2-0, at home. Ches-Mont. Elizabeth Morgan scored two second-half goals to lead Sun Valley to a 2-0 victory at Coatesville.

Ryan DeWalt and Evan Harkins combined on a no-hitter as 10th-seeded Germantown Academy hit the road Tuesday and eliminated No. 7 Germantown Friends, 3-1, in the first round of the PAISAA baseball tournament. DeWalt struck out four in three innings. Harkins fanned seven in four innings of relief. DeWalt, a Lehigh recruit, exited so that he could pitch in the quarterfinals Thursday at Haverford School. Haverford School 14, Barrack Hebrew 2 - Nick Greco went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs and Bryan Hyland went 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBIs to lead the No. 2 Fords at home against the No. 15 Cougars.

ANNE WOOD embodied in her life and spirit much of what it means to be a Quaker. "Her spiritual wisdom, plain speaking and generous kindness touched lives with the steadiness of a love born of her Quaker roots," her family said. Anne not only lived the Quaker spirit, she also taught it. She spent 41 years at the Westtown School in Chester County, as a teacher of Quakerism and Latin, as well as holding many administrative positions. Services will be held later this month for Anne Wood, a retired teacher, artist, craftswoman and world traveler, who died Nov. 24 while visiting family in Maine.

Two Philadelphia transfers and a Northern European native played key roles as the Phelps School overcame a 16-point deficit and claimed the program's first Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association boys' basketball title. Spurred by Mike Watkins and Anwar Epps, both of whom played in the Public League last season, and Antanas Krimelis, a native of Lithuania, the fifth-seeded Lions stunned No. 2 Westtown, 50-46, on Saturday in the final at Malvern Prep. Down by 36-20 in the third quarter, Phelps upped the defensive pressure, erupted for a 25-5 run, and denied the Moose their first tournament crown.

Noah Snyder and Adam Trask waited four years for this moment. For Friends' Central, the wait for a Friends Schools League championship was even longer. Snyder and Trask won the final two matches Saturday, and the host Phoenix knocked off 10-time defending champion Westtown, 36-30, to claim its first league title since 1998. The two schools had wrestled each other for the championship the last nine seasons, with Westtown winning each time. Public League Tournament. On the strength of three champions and two runner-up finishes, Central ran away with the team title at Southern.

Imani Brown dished out eight assists for visiting Baldwin. Penn Charter 54, Episcopal Academy 40: Ayanna Matthews topped 1,000 points in her career with 19 in the road win. Matthews came into the game needing two. CATHOLIC LEAGUE Bonner-Prendergast 60, Conwell-Egan 25: Alyssa Monaghan paced host Bonner-Prendergast with 21 points, 6 steals, and 4 assists.

Trailing by one at halftime on an otherwise overcast Thursday afternoon, the Germantown Friends girls' soccer team had a moment of clarity. "The girls had a realization that the game was there for the taking," coach Jeremy Hurdle said. "But they needed to go out and take it. " The top-seeded Tigers did just that, scoring two goals in the first six minutes of the second half and going on to capture their first Friends Schools League title, 2-1, over visiting No. 3 Friends' Central in the final.
